At the Movies

John and I took in a double feature last night, further defined as two movies sandwiched between dinner and shopping. We usually alternate who chooses the flick but John’s recent choices have been pretty suspect. Just for the record, last month he selected “Friday Night Lights,” a true story about a group of sweaty high school football players from a small town in Texas who believe life peaks at 18. Nothing left to look forward to after high school football. I was pretty depressed after that film. His holiday pick was “Christmas with the Kranks.” While I love Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen (and John), this movie was a real yawn….3 good ho ho ho’s for almost two hours of sitting. Five thumbs down.

In an effort to circumvent a similar evening, we looked at the current list of movies together. John immediately selected “Meet the Fockers” while I was secretly hoping for “Ray.” We compromised and went to both. “Meet the Fockers” was a riot! A silly movie, we found just about everything funny! But how can you go wrong with Ben Stiller (male nurse), Blythe Danner, Robert DeNiro (covert retired CIA), Barbara Streisand (a geriatric sex therapist) and Dustin Hoffman.

“Ray” captivated us. Although we were aware that the movie was long (20 minutes short of 3 hours) we could have stayed in the theater all night. The music goes deep to the soul and Jamie Foxx as Ray, was legendary. We loved this movie and were pleased that we could stay awake long enough to get to the 9:40 pm start time.
