The rain finally disappeared and the sun came out just in time for Earth Day 2006. I spend several hours at the World’s Fair Park taking photos, looking around and putting in a few volunteer hours.
Recognize the blonde in turquoise? She is h-m-m-m-m-, can’t remember her name, but I know she is a Channel 10 weekend anchor. No, not the blonde with the wings, the other one. Ed is behind the booth (with hat), Cheryl is at the far left of the photo (petition in hand).
Due to a couple of days of heavy rain, the World’s Fair north lawn was a soggy setting for Earth Fest. Hay had been strategically placed to soak up the moisture, but muddy, grassy puddles appeared in unexpected places. Most visitors wore some sort of rubber flip flops and seemed to embrace the opportunity to splash in the puddles.
Axel, Jeanne (taking pictures) and Liza, their very well behaved pup!
John standing behind an array of information about I-3, outings and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Ron Miller, round the world traveler, standing in front of a display of pictures from his book about his journey “Escape From the Happy Cannibal, A Journey of the Soul”. If you enjoy reading travel stories as much as I do, this is a great read. Info about Ron, his journey and the book can be found at: http://www.rontravel.com/index.htm
Liz, the Earth Fairy, wearing a billboard of issues.
Cheryl did her volunteer duties rousing support (and signatures) against Interstate 3.
A few local restaurants had booths at Earth Fest. The chips, hummus and salsa came from Sunspot (located on Cumberland Avenue). Great green salsa, good hummus and tasty, but a little greasy chips.
Axel and Jeanne. Axel stayed all day, Jeanne and Liza left after putting in few hours of their own.
Lots of people enjoying the sunshine at Earth Fest 2006. A good day, a good cause.
